Absolutely American   (book)

Absolutely American: Four Years at West Point
Absolutely American: Four Years at West Point

After hearing about this book on NPR, I decided I would remember to eventually read it. The author talked about how his father always steered him away from the army, and also about his initial antipathy towards his assignment. But after being given unrestricted access to West Point students and learning much about what goes on in their classrooms, he declares the army to be "absolutely american."

After reading this book myself, I have to say although it didnt have much of a storyline and many a time it read like magazine articles posted together, I thoroughly enjoyed it and would read it again. It gives you insight (although whether some of the information could be misleading only cadets and administration at west point would know) on one of the most prestigious academies in the world. I highly recommend it.

I believe this book came out of the author's assignment from Rolling Stone to cover the army, so the impression you got about magazine articles pasted together probably isn't too far off!
